When Angelou was old enough, she moved to San Francisco, California. Here she won a scholarship to study dance and acting at California Labor School. While in school, she began to make impossibilities reality. She dropped out of school at the age 14 to become the first car conductor for african american women. She finished school later and became pregnant at the age of sixteen. In 1944, she gave birth to her beautiful son, Guy, and had to work numerous jobs after she graduated high school just to be able to provide for her child and herself.
