Anasia Gladney

Anasia Gladney is a bright, humorous, and congenial African American woman. She is 16 years old, a junior at the Academy at Palumbo High School, and an employee at Fresh Grocers. Anasia is also an appreciative, empathetic person, and to quote her mother, Hadiya Gladney, “ a joy to be around”.
You may wonder, how Anasia became who she is now. She was influenced by living in public housing and by her mother’s efforts to leave public housing and raise her two daughters.
Anasia’s mom, Hadiya Gladney, was pregnant during high school and gave birth to Anasia straight out of high school. Because of that, she was disowned by her parents. Furthermore, she was in an abusive relationship with Anasia’s biological father and moved into the shelters after leaving him. After the shelters, she moved into public housing projects. Public housing is rental housing for low-income families, elders, and people with disabilities. Crime rates are high around here, and some of the people who lived in it, sold drugs. This

The transition from living in public housing to living in a house made Anasia realize a plethora of things. She realized that she has to be appreciative of everything she has because she came from a less fortunate situation and saw that everything you have can be taken away from you easily just by making imprudent decisions. She also realized that she missed out on some things in her childhood by living in public housing. Now, her family has more space, are able to do more activities in the house, and Anasia can invite her friends over to her house. Even though Anasia does not feel ashamed that she lived in public housing, after she moved into her house, she became more confident because there can no longer be rumors in school that she lives in public housing projects or other bad
