Anaphabet People

And nothing that they propose will now be impossible for them. Meaningful quote to describe the analphabet people that I taught for a year, adults whose hunger to succeed was reflected in their eyes. It was not just about teaching them, but also taking care of their children. Problems were a day to day struggle to deal with, from minor problems related to huge problems that sometime were a threat to the program.
Since the start of my senior year, I was given the mission to teach analphabet adults every weekend. People from low income families who could not afford a decent education and at a young age had to abandon school. I was ordered by my teacher to give Social Studies class on the 5th grade. First couple of weeks were pretty much a torture for me. It was a completely new experience to be a teacher,

Sometimes it would take students 3 weeks to learn a subject and normally it takes one, what we would do with this special students was to designate a personal teacher to each of them that way they could learn things faster and in personal way if they had any questions. Most of them would deal with the pressure very well, others one abandoned the program because they would not feel capable enough to learn things in such a time. other students would abandon the program because of their availability, they would spend most of the day working and they did not had th excitement and/or energies to go to school.
At the end, I would like to say this was a once in a lifetime experience. I met people that I will probably never see again. Even more sad news are the program is not active anymore, it was cancelled by the Government. Somehow this program would help the students and teachers life. Students would be able to search for a better job with their diploma, on the other hand I learned a lot from this humble people and their lives. If I had the opportunity I would do it

Initially, I saw my impact in my classroom. I understood how things worked in my own classroom community, but I now realize that I did not have a sound understanding of the school and district as a whole. This program has broadened my thinking and reshaped the way I view public education. I believe that through the coursework and internship experiences I have become a much more mindful educator, and I have greatly increased my knowledge and experiences regarding public education.…

I had only been a College professor for three years when Gregory Levey’s controversial and much-discussed magazine piece “Lament for the iGeneration” was published in 2009. I interpreted it as a cautionary tale: if we’re in the hands of the next generation, we’re really screwed. Levey, a Ryerson communications professor, basically argued he’s pretty sure education has tanked; the iGeneration (those born in the 1990s) can’t handle post-secondary learning; and that the gap between the schools and the kids is too huge to mend. Dismal stuff, but I understood where Levey was coming from—kind of. I was terrified when I first started teaching.…

My focus, during the interview that I conducted with a police sergeant at a local police department, was on a program within a school district that is aimed at anonymity and rewards to help with problem solving, but it is also providing a community service and helping in deterring crime. The program is a crime stoppers program where people are able to call in and give anonymous tips, if an arrest or seizure is made, then these people are able to collect a reward for their tip. Overall, it is a great program, great enough for the city police and the school district police to each have one that is independent from one another, yet work together hand in hand. After hearing what my interviewee had to say about the program, I would have to say that…

Personal Reflection I found this project to be tremendously educational as a school counselor in training. I was able to find answers to the questions that I have wanted to know ever since I decided to pursue this line of work and complete this project feeling more confident than when I began it. One topic that the City High counselor and I talked about that was directly relatable to me was the fact that he received his Master’s degree in School Counseling at Arizona State and was easily able to transfer his license to Illinois.…

Mrs. Hubbard said that that end of school procedures start about 2 to 3 weeks before the last day of school. The end of year procedures are hard on teachers but not because of exams they have to get ready for standardized tests. The standardized tests in Virginia are called SOL’s. These tests aren’t given at the very end of the year but a couple weeks from the end. This means that all of the content for the year has to be finished earlier.…

My most humbling experience was when I was tutoring English in China. That was not my first tutoring experience, but the students I taught were unique. They were pediatric oncology patients at the hospital that I was volunteering at. These were children who have to be hospitalized for long period of time in order to receive treatments for their cancer. Their parents and caretakers can’t always be there and they often have to spend a lot of time alone.…

As we’ve studied the different types of educational philosophies in class, I’ve been able to see which category my beliefs fall into and where that puts me in the teaching world. Throughout my educational career, my family and teachers have shaped my philosophy into a combination of both romanticism and progressivism. As a teacher I want to be able to help a student strive for self-fulfillment while focusing on individual student’s learning processes. Based on my ideals, I want for my classroom to be a place where my students can go to learn in a way that suits their personality, and in a non-pressured environment. I want to be able to engage my students and challenge them to learn based on their interests.…

While coordinating and overseeing this project, I learned many things. I not only learned about myself, but about the people who volunteered to help and the Little Jags. I learned that a little help and an extra push goes a long way in a child’s life. The teachers do genuinely care about them and want them to succeed, but sometimes, they just cannot give them the help that they need, simply because there is one teacher and too many students. I have learned tons just by watching the Little Jags and how they function.…
