Analyzing Vorreyer's Poem Alone

I really liked this poem and the way Vorreyer put it together. I thought it was interesting and easy to read and understand at the same time. The diction that she chooses to use really stood out to me. She used phrases like “Dickensian bedrooms” and “Ellis Island of diction” which I thought really fit the poem nicely and gave it character. They are also quite descriptive phrases that paint a picture in your mind. Besides allusion, Vorreyer also uses a lot of imagery in this poem. The stanzas describing the hollow-eyed orphans and the high school dance were very vivid to me. I also liked the way the author ended the poem. It just tied up very nicely and looped back to the theme of words and literature.
Regarding the subject matter, I thought

The theme of my guided reading book is about Lonnie overcoming his challenges. In the poem “Parents Poem”, the author states “....That stupid fire couldn't take all of them. Nothing could do that….”. This line shows that not even a fire can take away the memories of his parents. He uses his happy memories of his parents to get him through the gloomy days not the negative of the fire.…

The vivid imagery took me away and made me feel hooked on to what was being said. There is always a need for imagery in poetry, because without it, the reader would not quite understand what is going on. Imagery allows the reader to feel like he or she is actually present in that time and ultimately causes emotions to…

"Untitled" by Stephen Crane enlightens the reader on how the emotions of a human heart can consume one's own conscience and how one must come to love their attributes good or bad. Crane begins the poem with symbolism relating to the original form of a human being. " I saw a creature, naked, bestial". The man is not masked with materialistic items that might cause confusion towards the image of the man. The man is in his purest form is free from the interpretation of his clothing that might be mistaken for who he is.…

    The Victims Poem Analysis

Upon initial reading, “The Victims” by Sharon Olds seems to be a poem that paints the picture of a life of abuse; starting from the dawning of the exploitation and arching over into the life of the abused following the maltreatment. In the work, it is made to be believed that the clear victims of the poem are the speaker and their family—which is a rightful and obvious assumption—but there is another victim that is not as prevalent as that of the speaker and their family: the speaker’s father. After a second read, it is made evidently apparent that although the work does focus on the speaker and their family as the victims of the poem, the ideal that the father is also a victim is explored. Since the father is depicted as an abuser, it is seen…

Along with the sound I think the diction level of the text is kind of difficult to understand, I think that there are a lot of strong verbs used and complex words that make the text hard to follow, especially when listening to it. The choice of words helps to signal the purpose of the text by really describing scenarios and events in a very strong manner that let the text come to life in my head such when Edgar Allen Poe states, “Leave my loneliness unbroken!—quit the bust above my door!” This is a perfect example of strong word use in order for me to illustrate what is happening in the text. I envision a distraught man who wants to be left alone yet others do not want him to. This piece of text has a very sorrowful connotation behind…
