I was the orienter of the group. I challenged my group’s ideas to make sure that they would work and I would weigh out the positive and negative consequences of each option and would make sure that everything would work efficiently. I am the kind of person that needs to know and understand everything before it happens so I know that it will all work out. I fit the role of the orienter perfectly. In our presentation I will also talk about Tuckman’s model. In Tuckman’s model there are five stages of small group development. In my group we covered the first stage during our group dinner. That stage was the forming stage where we got to know each other. The second stage is the storming stage. “This stage begins once you and your group members establish a comfort zone and begin to actively participate by sharing ideas, and contributing to the group”(The Communication Age). It was difficult to find a time and date that would work for everyone. We had to make some sacrifices so we could do the service-learning project. In class we would discuss what we had going on the next few weeks and then found the days that could work for all of us. We had to also figure out how long we needed to work each day. Everyone put there input and ideas on what days we wanted to do the project. I learned what it is like to work in a group and how important each person’s contribution is. I learned a lot of information on perceptions. In the book, “perception is the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something” (The Communication Age). I look at things different now. I am more aware of how people act around me and how to perceive certain situations. I learned how to think for myself, and work with people who I didn’t know. This class has been my favorite class that I have ever taken, and I will use the information that I learned in this class every
