Analyzing Thomas Edison's 'Looking For Alaska'

“Thomas Edison’s last words were: ‘It’s very beautiful over there.’ I don’t know where there is, but I believe it’s somewhere, and I hope it’s beautiful.” - Looking for Alaska by John Green. The way that this quote has changed the way that I approach the world is that it makes me view circumstances differently. Generally, I would have a negative outlook on situations but this line in Looking for Alaska has made me step back and see the beauty instead of the pessimistic side of reality. If I had not read this book at the point of my life I was at though, I would not have interpreted it the way that I have. There were many quotes I looked at from this book because all together it has changed my views and the way I advance in the world. Therefore, my beliefs on this quote is that it is a representation of my future as a student and a person. I view college as the brightest part in someone’s journey due to the fact that it prepares you for your life later on. Just as everyone before me has most likely said, college is what I look forward to; However, my reason is that I seek wisdom and the beauty that is spoken about in my chosen quote.
I plan to take my opinion on and impression of Looking for Alaska and figure out a way to incorporate into my everyday routine and thought process. I’m not sure if it is Thomas Edison’s last words that affect me the most or if it is what Miles says afterwards. Just as he says, I do believe “over there” is somewhere and I am hoping that college may prepare me for wherever it is or at least the journey there because that is eventually where I would like to be.
