“The transformation of silence into language and action” was a speech ultimately given by Audre Lorde at the lesbian and literature panel.This speech was given after she was diagnosed with cancer and Lorde became more knowledgeable of her finite amount of time on earth. This speech has inspired me to write this speech of my own because after the heartbreaking event, she clearly understood the most regretted thing in her life were the moment she had stayed silence. Why had she not spoken up in the past? Perhaps because of the same reason we have not. We need to start taking advantage of the opportunity that are given to us and use it to the best. Lorde shared her language with others even when their was no one to present it to. Through my personal experience, I can say that their has been moments of time where I have truly wanted to speak up or say something but by some means I talked myself out of it because the last time I has spoken my mind, someone had implied that I did not have the adequate understanding of the topic. If this happened to us, should we stop circulating our knowledge or opinion? I say no because lack of knowledge should not stop any individual from airing their views. In the article, Lorde mentions, “ I was going to die, if not sooner than later, whether or not I had ever spoken myself. My silences had not protected me. Your silence will not protect you. But for every real word spoken, for every attempt I had ever made to speak those truths for which I am still seeking, I had made contact with other women while we examined
