This movie is filled with references and allusions way outside of the time period in which the events are depicted to occur. Many things ranging from music choices to remarks are outside of the time period and put there purposely for literary advantages. These advantages range from small things, such as humour, all the way to the serious and important reasons. The movie is filled with music way beyond its time. The opening scene is a joust with the song 'We Will Rock You' by Queen playing as the characters dance along to the beat. It's obvious that the song is out of place here and you can find many more examples throughout the entire drama.
