From solid storytelling to movie magic, Divergent succeeds on almost every level. It's everything from being action packed, breathtaking, to thrilling, with a well founded storyline. Divergent takes places in a society that is divided into five factions that civilians must dedicate themselves to. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is informed that she is Divergent and will never fit into just one faction. When Tris finds out the scheme by Erudite faction leader Jeanine Mathews (Kate Winslet) to destroy all Divergents, Tris must find away to hide her Divergence. This is a great movie to watch with your friends or just by yourself. Everything about the setting, the characters, and the theme certainly makes this movie fun and entertaining for all audiences.

Tris risks her life to svae other for example, Tris stands up for Al (Christian Madsen) by standing in front of the board while Four (Theo James) threw knifes at her. Divergent also creates a mysterious mood because it does talk about what has happened that made this society divide into factions. This is just one of the many reasons why this movie is a must see.
Characters make a movie, if a movie has boring characters with not much personality to them it would make the movie boring and unintrested. Divergent is filled with chararcters with a lot of personality traits which makes the movie enteraining to watch. I will discuss topic number two with East of Eden. East of Eden incorporates camera placement, mood lighting, and camera angles to further enhance an actor’s performance and the overall mood of the scene. For instance, the Trask family sits at the dining room, a traditional family setting, but under dark mood lighting. The side of the table with the main protagonist Cal is more darkly lit than the side of the table were Cal’s father Adam and Cal’s brother Aron are seated, which is warmly lit. The camera is intentionally placed to show Adam and Aron in one full shot, and Cal in the other.…

The Abyss (1910), is a movie ahead of its time. Not only due to the erotic dance scene resembling a modern striptease, but also its plot form, which is very similar to a modern Romantic-drama: Two men fighting over one woman—one a gentleman and the other an abusive cheater. The women ends up wanting the bad boy, because although the gentleman treats her better, he’s not the one she really loves. This is one of the first movies I’ve seen from this time with such a complex story within the plot.…

The first time I viewed the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, it stayed in my thoughts for at least a week. As it may come off quite comical and seemingly too quirky, the story incases a message grasping the theme of undying love. The main character, Scott, first comes to terms with his superficial relationship with his adorable, yet naive girlfriend, Knives Chao. His passion for music and his alternative rock band then leads him to the other protagonist, Ramona, the heartthrob. From the moment he notices her, he believes with all his heart that she is his soulmate.…

The emergence of the female heroine in young adult dystopian fiction is working to change stereotypical representations of women through texts. Women are often under represented, hyper-sexualised or lack complexity in modern works, with just 23% of films distributed globally from 2010-12 featuring female protagonists according to a report released by the Geena Davis Institute. While it is true that female protagonists have been seen over time, they are all too often represented in manners that focus on appearance, their domestic roles and subservience, or emphasized femininity (Connell & Messerschmidt, 2005). Cult classics like The Hunger Games and Divergent are working to empower young women through the characters of Katniss and Tris who are…

Divergent—Book vs. Movie In the first of the Divergent series, there are several differences between the movie and the book. These differences prove to make the book more enjoyable to readers. It is a typical thing in literature for a book to be more enjoyable to the reader than the movie will be as the reader has the freedom to decide what his own scenes look like. The book is superior to the movie in that the representations of violence are less in most ways than in the book.…

The audience use this double ending to foresee the future predicament of the nation, with either doom illustrated with death of the main biracial character or hope the reconciliation of interracial love. Hopkins use of duality throughout Hagar’s Daughter construct the novel’s commentary on passing as it pertains to the nation’s race relationships. Her conceptualization of biological identities, inheritance, and racial caricatures paint this dichotomous fiction that is synonymous to the state of the nation. In an overall sense of duality, Hopkins uses this work not only as groundbreaking art form into serial fiction but also call her audience into social action. Most movies present characters with supernatural abilities that humans would never be able to do (have), yet in the movie Divergent, the character Tris is surprisingly relatable to the viewers. In this seemingly Utopian society, all members must pick one of only five different factions, to which they must remain in for the rest of their life. The scene I chose shows Tris going through the Dauntless ritual after she chose them as her faction. She ends up climbing structures, getting onto a full speed train, and jumping off onto the top of a high story building. Despite being extremely hesitant, she seems to follow out of the fear of not making it and consequently being factionless.…

Nowadays, in many popular movies, characters play the roles of deviants. A deviant is a person that lives and acts differently from what is accepted by society. According to the Functionalist perspective, deviance helps understand society’s unacceptable behavior, and at the same time, it provides guidelines for behavior that aim to create social stability over time. In the movie, ‘Divergent,’ Tori who later on changes her name to Tris, is a deviant in the story.…

An effective way that a novel becomes timeless is through the social change that the story may prompt. Once a book influences thought or action, its validity and relevance increases. During the Victorian Era in which Jane Eyre takes place, women were forced by society into becoming simplistic and conforming without rebellion. Instead of allowing individuality and expression, men tended to suppress the freedom and personalities of females. To this day still, the lack of female empowerment in a patriarchal society takes prevalence.…
