The first performance standard is hourly rounding.
1.1.1. Current functions – what is done?
The department that I am interning with at Mercy Health St. Mary 's is an inpatient unit. This floor primarily provides care to oncology patients but is not exclusive to these types of patients. They also provide care for those that are med surgery patients.
1.1.2. Benchmarks used – how do you know that you are doing well?
The benchmark used for hourly rounding is a score that the department receives from a national independent corporation known as Press Ganey. The department uses the results from Press Ganey to measure the consistence within the Trinity Health network along with all other hospital systems. The scores from Press Ganey allow Mercy Health St. Mary 's to know where they stand within the Trinity Health network, community, state, etc. My site coordinator stated that their overall goal is to be in the 90th percentile. She stated that they desire to be the best and always wants to improve the score for hourly rounding.

Analyze findings for each function – compare actual to the benchmark. In order to help improve hourly rounding scores the department uses results from Press Ganey. For hourly rounding the goal is set at 62 and the year to date is 47.3. For the month of March they scored 45.9 and in April they scored 63.3 for hourly rounding. Even though the department is improving their scores in both areas, it would be nice to see more consistency and less variation from month to month in the
