Analytical Essay 1 Throughout her piece, Ozick commands her readers into agreement of her argument by painting a vivid portrait that transparently differentiates the measly article from the ancient and powerful essay with the employment a plethora of rhetorical strategies. Among the most prominent motifs of the excerpt is Ozick’s utilization of juxtaposition, paired with diction and invective, as well as anaphora. Ozick dedicates the entirety of a paragraph to the comparison of an article to an essay by using parallel structure with the repetition of two sentences, both of which begin with “an article/essay,” respectively, and in which an essay is clearly given the upper hand.…

The script explores and poses the moral question about how far the medical community goes for the sake of research. It also examines how callous the medical community can be towards patients, seeing them as a statistic rather than a real human being.…

In the short story “Earthquake” by Jack Hodgins the theme is that nature is stronger than man. This has been reminded to the characters in the story violently, through the earthquake of ’46. The narrator notes that “the scariest thing about quakes is that they change the way a fellow looks at the world”. This is reflected in his uncle Toby, when after he witnesses the lake draining, he becomes obsessed, essentially quitting work and tells his story over and over to anyone who will listen.…

Since our first attempt at writing an essay in elementary to middle school, we are told the main components to writing an essay is the ‘beginning’, ‘middle’, and ‘end.’ All of which holds true today, but as we move from one grade to the next, the standards for a ‘good’ essay changes for the better. Rhetorical strategies, devices, and appeals also known as rhetoric, is what we learn in high school (Stotsky 10). The continuation of the expanding knowledge is what makes us alter our writing strategies, from the material taught to us in our adolescent years of elementary school and every year thereafter. It is in high school that we are taught to analyze and dissect the author, as well as the author’s work ceaselessly.…

To Kill a Mockingbird - “Atticus said to Jem one day, “I’d rather you shot at tin cans in the back yard, but I know you'll go after birds. Shoot all the Bluejays you want, if you can hit 'em, but remember it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." This passage was a major part of the story because of the symbolism that has now been revealed. The Mockingbird is a harmless and pure hearted animal, which in this story symbolizes Boo Radley and Tom Robinson. I chose this passage because of the strong meaning behind it.…

The definitive diagnosis is through an acid fast stain of the bacteria in a lab, obtained through multiple sputum cultures and a chest x-ray showing abnormalities of the lungs. There is antibiotic treatment for tuberculosis but the bacteria is very drug resistant due to the stiff structure of the cell wall and as a result, the antibiotic course is long and sometimes dangerous due to serious side effects. The most common antibiotics used to treat TB are isoniazid and rifampicin for a minimum of six months. There are drug-resistant strains of TB known as MDR-TB and in these cases, several drugs are used at once to give treatment a better chance at success. Those who have latent TB are treated right away with one antibiotic to prevent the disease from becoming active at some point in time.…

Happy Endings is one of Margaret Atwood's most frequently-anthologized stories because it is so unusual. In each of her endings, Margret creates two main characters, John and Mary. Mary being one of the main characters, shows Margret’s way of thought with the stereotypical belief that women are not as important to men. Her point addresses the gender prejudice characterization toward women. Making John and Mary boring characters caused me to make no connection to the characters.…
