“I have so much chaos in my life, and it’s become normal. You become used to it. You have to just relax, calm down, take a deep breath and try to see how you can make things work rather than complain about how they're wrong,” Says Tom Welling an American actor, producer, director, and model. As most people clearly know, life is hard rough road that likes to turn everyday life on its head. Chaos might occur when parents’ divorce, when a death of a love one comes out of nowhere, or when something out of the ordinary happens in everyday life. To exemplify the idea of life being flawed are three short stories: Sherman Alexie’s “Because My Father Always Said he Was The Only Indian Who Saw Jimi Hendrix Play “The Star-Spangled Banner” At Woodstock,” …show more content…
To start off with, the theme is shown in the father and son’s relationship. Their relationship is not the ordinary father son relationship we see in our ordinary everyday life because the son would take care of the alcoholic father and make sure he was pleased. An example would be the son would wait up until he saw his dad’s headlights then he would put in his father’s favorite tape in the stereo then his father would pass out at the table while the son slept under the table by his father’s feet. Thinking of a single father, one would think the father would take care of the son and care for him in every way a child would require but that is the complete opposite of this father and son’s relationship. In the reading it says, “ The days after, my father would feel so guilty that he would tell me stories as a means of apology,”(Alexie 26) meaning the father knew he was acting like the child making his son take care of him while he was being a selfish father. Then the theme is displayed when the father’s hero is singer that abuses drugs and alcohol. The reading states, “Only the good dies young, my father said.” (Alexie 32) This quote shows the father’s life was not ordinary and had his priorities wrong. He thought of his hero as a perfect man yet he was the farthest thing from …show more content…
First of all, the theme is displayed when they were going on vacation when they turned off onto a road to go observe a house the grandmother wanted to see and get into a car accident. In this case they were not expecting for that to happen to them since vacations are supposed to be enjoyable not troubling. In the text it says, “The grandmother was curled up under the dashboard, hoping she was injured so Bailey’s wrath would not come down on her all at once.” (O’Connor 7) This quote shows if the grandmother would have remained quiet they could have traveled on to their destination and proceeds on with their vacation instead of venturing off their path. Secondly the theme presented when the grandmother is trying reason with the Misfit as he is having his men kill off her family one by one, saving her for last. In the reading it says, “Maybe they put you in by mistake.” (O’Connor 11) In this quote it demonstrates how the grandmother was trying to tell the Misfit he really was not a killer her was a respectable man that did not do anything wrong, but was made out to look as an evil

Flannery O’Connor lived a short thirty-nine years and during that time published thirty-one stories and two novels, in addition to multiple reviews and essays. Despite her short ourve, O’Connor aimed to illuminate an impactful, didactic message in each of her stories, exposing truths behind the superficialities of dialogue and self-image. To achieve that message, most of her stories share a glaring continuity: They take place in the American South. O’Connor uses the culture of the American South to expose its racism and elitism; and in “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” she utilizes diction in dialogue, situational irony, and the third person limited perspective to maximize the impact of her message. “A Good Man is Hard to Find” involves, for…

In the poem “My Papa’s Waltz,” Theodore Roethke develops the idea that complicated family relationships teach lessons for the future, it prevents an individual from missing a step in life. The poet uses imagery and metaphors to enhance the theme of the poem. Individuals can portray the images developed by the poet differently but the same theme is taken from these images. The first stanza in the poem already depicts the idea of complicated relationships being compared to the waltz, which is a dance that is “not easy.”…

The grandmother is not the only person who represents the title of the story. The other family members have role in the meaning of the title also. As the story goes on, the reader increasingly dislikes their character and their actions. The kids especially are rude as they arrive at The Tower and seem to have a bad attitude as they come closer to the accident. In a scene in the car both John Wesley and June Star make negative comments about Tennessee and Georgia, which marks the start of the reader beginning to dislike the family more as the story goes on.…
