Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys is a historical drama book, written in first person point of view, of a girl who is being deported by the Soviet police during 1941, and sent to death in a prison camp. The book opens up when Lina and her family are being placed under arrest by Russian officers. Lina, her mother Elena, and her younger brother, Jonas, are taken to a railroad station, and then loaded into cars; Lina slips away to find her father and that’s the last time she sees him.
