The first time I viewed the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, it stayed in my thoughts for at least a week. As it may come off quite comical and seemingly too quirky, the story incases a message grasping the theme of undying love. The main character, Scott, first comes to terms with his superficial relationship with his adorable, yet naive girlfriend, Knives Chao. His passion for music and his alternative rock band then leads him to the other protagonist, Ramona, the heartthrob. From the moment he notices her, he believes with all his heart that she is his soulmate.…

His thesis “My father loved books, and since I love my father with an aching devotion, I decided to love books as well” best describes the author’s position on the topic. He conveys his thesis to the readers through rhetorical devices such as ethos, pathos and logos and literary devices such as repetition as he describes his personal experiences. When he crosses the threshold into the wizarding world, the contrasts between the two realms are drastic. “It’s a good idea for writers to make the Ordinary World as different as possible from the Special World, so audience and hero will experience a dramatic change when the threshold is finally crossed”, and it is (Vogler 87).
