“Her Story”
The poem itself was written in first person “Her story” shows how a girl not sure of the age came to the conclusion that attempt suicide would end all her problems reason being was because of all the suffering she has hit with because of her skin color. But as I read through the poem it was clear that even with a status it didn’t mean anything nor did it change the way things were. The status symbol basically just gave back the permission to use the same facilities as whites that was about it. I felt the proud in the voice of the speaker and the joy for the strength that the struggle has given them.
“Grief steams down my chest”
The title of this poem made me have the thought of someone with sorrow and pain “grief streams down my chest” using the word “stream” describing the pain going through this person. “Like spittle from the baby’s mouth “the figure of speech used here was simile “spittle from a babies mouth” compared to the pain going through his chest. I think the theme was about the mother of this Vietnam solider who lost their children and the pain they were feeling. It’s a very hurtful feeling to lose a child.
