Myer is a department store chain, with locations across Australia, operating in the retail sector. Myer has several communication channels, with this report focusing on Myer’s use of YouTube to reach its Target Market. Myer’s YouTube channel is a recent addition in Myer’s century-long history, having established their presence on YouTube on the July 30th, 2009. YouTube itself was only founded in 2005, however, despite this short existence, Alexa currently ranks YouTube as the second most popular website on the internet. With access to YouTube requiring only an internet connection, it is a key channel of communication between organisations and consumers.

YouTube is a social media website, currently owned by Google, that focuses on video hosting and sharing. YouTube enables both individuals and organisations to upload videos to a user-controlled channel, which other users can then subscribe to so that they receive notifications when the channel uploads their latest videos. YouTube users can also view, like or dislike, share, build playlists from and comment on video uploads. Myer’s videos depict a stylish and trendy product range, one that provides high-quality products to customers. As Myer has a wide range of products across its department stores, YouTube allows them to promote specific products or ranges in individual videos, which can also be then placed in specific playlists. For example, many of Myer’s videos focus on seasonal fashion and gift giving holidays, such as Christmas and Mother’s Day, as well as curated playlists that offer style advice to consumers, while also prompting Myer’s product
