Miley Cyrus, 24, has grown up in the public eye and has recently come forward about how playing the title character in “Hannah Montana” messed with her head.
Miley says the boundaries between her onscreen persona and her actual self became so intensely blurred that her "psyche was damaged."

The singer sat down with CBS Sunday Morning and spoke candidly about how “being Hannah Montana” sparked identity issues that she struggled with as a teenager.
“America feels like my aunt [telling me], ‘You know, you’re growing up so much and we don’t want to see you grow up,’” she said. “I think why people loved Hannah Montana was because Hannah Montana did feel real, and that’s because I was under there.” …show more content…
I mark that up to doing some extreme damage to my psyche as an adult person.”
Growing up on TV and in the public eye is never easy, but Cyrus has come a long way from her Disney roots.
Most of the world remembers her provocative “Wrecking Ball” music video and how it was unlike anything we’ve ever seen from Cyrus before. She credits this moment as the catalyst for allowing her to distinguish her true self from her squeaky-clean Disney star alter-ego.
“I didn’t realize that it was going to shift me into truly being my own person,” Cyrus said. “It changed my life. I felt like that divide, that boundary, was very clear.”
