Imagine, step out the front door and people stare. You keep walking all around you gasps. Whispers, people saying your ugly, brute, grotesque. This is Me, a song featured on the soundtrack of the Greatest Showman by Kesha describes the challenges of adaptation. In the movie,a man in New York broke the boundaries of modern circus by adding in deformed talent such as knife toss, rope acrobatics, and juggling. In the movie the character were bullied when they looked different from others. In middle school, I was insecure about being different but many obstacles helped me discover who I am. This is Me reminded me the most.

In the song This is Me a lyric mentioned “When the sharpest words wanna cut me down” (Kesha). This personification represents the way people treated these special people which isn’t ok because people are people. I remember thought my middle school experience people constantly harassing me. From gay to retarded I’ve heard it all, and it has at times “cut me down.” Therefore making this lyric relevant to my middle school experience. Another aspect that this lyric brings is sharp words.

No matter what we do, what we like to do, or what we are going through, we are all individuals with souls and feelings. Our individualism is what makes us who we are. For such a great gift we shouldn’t apologize for being ourselves we should embrace it. Us being individual is great, being shunned for it is a very wicked thing to do. When people judge in middle school instead of being insecure we should be ourselves no matter what they say. Loud and proud! Doesn’t matter the look of someone or their body weight they are all people. In the past from my experience shunning someone can lead to; friendships broken people being depressed or worse suicidal thoughts. This is why it is important to be ourselves no matter what people say especially in middle school as I have

Often times when women go out, they fear they will be or are harassed by men, which leads to an overall negative experience. Up till now I have focused on the lyrics of the songs, but the music is as important in telling the story. As we travel through Pink’s life we imagine hearing the chapters’ flip as the intensity of the lyrics change, as well as, the pattern of music. The album starts with a flashback of Pink performing at a concert. You can feel the sense of a musician he is: a rock star. The guitar is loud; one might say the guitar solo has a similar sound as a Jimi Hendrix guitar solo.…

It is often said that teenagers begin discovering themselves in high school, but I did the opposite- I lost myself. The source of my pleasure and delight shifted from books to parties, writing to boys, and video-games to my social life. Something within me desperately craved to be normal- to no longer be the girl that gets harassed and ostracized for being an “appalling nerd” and because of this, vital aspects of my personality began to change and I morphed into an entirely different person. Through this journey, I learned that my self-hate was a catalyst for self-love and appreciation. Having always been considered an unusual girl in the eyes of my peers, I'd never been truly comfortable in my skin.…

It was used in the movie “I Was an American Spy” but it was also recreated by Les Baxter and Kenny Rankin, two different artists recorded the same song in different style by putting their unique spin to it. There is a much greater difference in the two songs than the voices of the singers, each has its own style, rhythm and beat. Moreover, the two songs do not give you the exact feelings and the mood varies greatly listening to the two pieces. Therefor, the songs are very contrasting but also similar in some ways.…

In J.Coles “She Knows” he uses a juvenile young man to demonstrate the life of a average suburban family and the struggles they go through. By looking at the the two scenes spoken about in this essay, we can see what exactly J.Cole means in his title “She Knows”, which most viewers don’t see; this is important because J.Cole changes the meaning of “She Knows” through the entire music video. The first important scene starts with the young man being dropped off by his mother and father on his way to school. This scene is significant because previously before the young man left the house he stole money from his parents and the young mans mother gazes at him in the car as if she knew what exactly he had done. The second important scene starts with…

In his album I Am…, Nas also has a song that touches upon religious imagery called “Hate Me Now.” The song’s Christian influence is not portrayed through the lyrics but through the imagery in the music video. Nas depicts himself as bloodied and battered walking through a crowd of hecklers as he wears a thorny crown and carries a cross. Nas’ portrayal mirrors the crucifixion of Jesus. Being myself is effortless over attempting to mimic others’ behaviors. When I am true to myself, I am not required to stress so much about anyone contradicting or having negative opinions to say when I do not choose the same decisions as them. The pressure to look like everyone around and conform to society decreases as I learn my own self worth. Showing my own character by doing what I trust is correct, dressing the way I am comfortable in and by not letting people's opinion influence my decisions , has permitted me to grow as a person. For example, I participate in activities that I enjoy and take classes that I find accommodating, to allow myself to stay true to myself.…
