Analyzing Jacobs 'Character Motivation'

Character motivation is the reason why a character does what he does in a story.
A character's motivation can cause a character to do good or bad things.
Characters may be motivated by their religion, the society or their beliefs.
Characters motivation often changes throughout a story depending on how the plot effects the characters.
“But if it meant that I’d finally be able to put my grandfather's mystery to rest and get on with my unexpectedly ordinary life, anything I had to endure would be worth it.”(page 68)
Jacobs motivation throughout the story is to find out about his grandfather's childhood, and to see if Jacobs grandfather's childhood and anything to do with his death.
