Analyzing Horton's Decision-Making Process Paper

If a client comes to me for counseling and she states she is a Christian, in her third year of undergraduate school, and then states she is struggling to choose a major because, “I am afraid that it may not be God’s will”, there are several steps I could take to help her through this crossroads. One is to give her a couple of surveys, one of which is can be Horton’s Decision-Making Survey, to see what factors are important to her because her indecision could come from stress and not being able to see God’s signs. Another survey that could be useful is the Career Thoughts Inventory (CTI) which is used to measure the client’s readiness to make a career decision by measuring their negative opinion about themselves (Bullock-Yowell et al., 2015). The inventory has 48 negatively written questions that the client has to rank from strongly disagree to strongly agree. The assessment can be completed in around 10 minutes in which the more negativity they agree with, the less ready they are to make a career decision. This assessment specifically measures decision-making confusion, commitment anxiety, and external conflict (Bullock-Yowell et …show more content…
He or she can start the career counseling as a single individual and quickly move to married with children, which can greatly change his or her situation and what career should be chosen. In this case, a career that has a higher income for less hours might be better than an option with less money and more hours. Continuing career counseling or even just having update appointments can help to ensure things are still going smoothly. Also update appointments can help to ensure that the client is still enjoying the job because when that starts to decline, productiveness and retaining the job could also be affected (Niles & Harris-Bowlsbey,
