All of Herbert Mullins' victims were no one type of person in particular; they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The beginning of his killing spree was much more brutal than the ending. Herbert was physically by himself but mentally he carried Satan alongside him. Satan would make Herbert feel like he was doing a good dead by killing people to make a blood sacrifice so that earthquakes would not strike California. The first murder committed by Herbert was a homeless man and Herbert beat him to dead until there was no life left in the helpless man. Although that murder was supposedly a sacrifice to delay an earthquake, Satan urged him that it was not enough; therefore leading Herbert to commit many more. The second murder was a woman at a nearby University. …show more content…

Herbert stabbed the priest to death and then left the church. Herbert and his accomplice, Satan, came to the conclusion that having a gun would be more effective and result in a less likely chance of getting caught. After purchasing the rifle Herbert went on to kill three adults and two children leaving behind no evidence. Herbert's last killings happened at a nearby park where he told four teenagers to leave the park and they refused. Herbert returned later and killed the four teenagers. Even though this happened at a local park and in clear daylight, there were no witnesses to testify against Herbert. His last victim was an old man tending his garden. Herbert drove by and shot the man, not knowing a neighbor saw the entire event. The neighbor wrote down the car information and Herbert was arrested shortly after
