Goal: To practice my facilitation/ “teaching” skills in preparation for Seminar Lead assignment, teach clients’ a new game or activity.
Although I feel I did very well on my seminar Lead Presentation in teaching and informing the class of all I have learned through this practicum, I haven’t accomplished the above goal because I didn’t teach clients a new game or activity. Because of personal issues and my studies, I didn’t feel that I had the time to prepare a new game and having a write-up as I had planned to do and that Jessica had asked for. Even though she wouldn’t have seen my write-up, I felt that I didn’t want to go ahead with planning a game or activity that accommodated all of the clients’ abilities and backgrounds. I believe I have accomplished this as I am able to apply and/or identify the stages of development according to Erikson that patrons at my placement are in regardless of their “abilities” which may make it much more challenging to determine such. For instance, I understand that while client A. may fit the age bracket for the “young adulthood” stage of life it is not focused on the important life event of “relationships” where he is looking to form intimate and loving relationships. Thus, as he has not yet formed relationships, he hasn’t failed entering loving relationships where the outcome is said to be loneliness and isolation. In place of this, although he has surpassed the age range for adolescence he is faced with the personality crisis of “identify versus role confusion” where the important life event is “social relationships. In the time that I have been at Aptus he seems to have developed a sense of personal identify to where he understands although many of his peers, staff, and parents may dislike Rap music, he likes it and so he is always seen writing raps. In accordance with such and possibly a better demonstration of such can be seen through him piercing his ears to “look like Lil Wayne.” Here, were he states his parents would be “really angry” with him if he pierced his ears, and after asking for staff’s opinions where they shared their dislike of piercing, he stayed true to who his is and got them
