Analyzing Eminem's Song 'When I M Gone'

Sharing a personal and rough story about your relationship with your daughter must be severe subject to discussed or even write a song about it. My song is written by Marshall Mathers or known by his stage name, Eminem, he wrote this incredible song called “When I’m Gone” for his daughter Hailie. This song is about him ignoring his daughter and focus more writing songs instead of being with her, and talks about his recurring dream about his daughter giving up on him, then he finally realizes that he doesn’t want her to leave and wakes up from his nightmare. Eminem wants to tell his daughter that he’s sorry for not being there for her, and doesn’t get enough time with his family. I relate to this since my dad was never there for our family or …show more content…
Eminem keeps having this dream about his daughter, this is a part of the dream when he was on tour and she followed him. “You lied to me Dad, and now you make Mommy sad. And I bought you this coin; it says 'Number One Dad.' “That's all I wanted, I just want to give you this coin” “I get the point - fine, me and Mommy are going.” But baby wait, “it's too late Dad, you made your choice. Now go up there and show 'em that you love 'em more than us.” Marshall Mathers or Eminem lied to his daughter Hailie, about never leaving her and her mother, she got him the ‘number one dad’ coin since he was going to stay and be with her. Hailie has had enough of her father’s lies and leaves because her father has made his choice on what he wants. My father made his choice, by passing the opportunity on raising my brother and I and instead he made the choice of being an alcoholic and only thinking about himself. He could’ve been a father that I looked up to and adored, only if he would’ve stopped his horrible behavior. He forgot about us, and now has a wife of his own and has another kid, yet he still hasn’t grown up, still hasn’t changed his ways and I wish he did. My father keeps telling me he will change and tries his best, but I gave up on him a long time …show more content…
When Eminem wakes up from his terrible dream about Hailie leaving he says, “The sky darkens, my life flashes, the plane that I was supposed to be on crashes and burns to ashes That's when I wake up, alarm clock's ringin', there's birds singin' It's spring and Hailie's outside swinging.” The plane crash indicates that if he got on that plane and would’ve left his daughter, he wouldn’t get the chance to see her again because it crashed. Marshall realized that he kept lying to his daughter, even though she still trusted him, since he stayed to be with her he woke up from his nightmare and got to be there for her. In my case, my father took my trust and threw in the garbage and didn’t realize it, making me keep forgiving him for his actions, “that he didn’t have time” or “next week for sure” then next week comes and keeps repeating that he doesn’t have time for me. I could’ve understand the first time, but if you keep on repeating the same thing over and over again and keep making excuses, it makes it hard to forgive him and it’s unacceptable. He still hasn’t woken up and realized he has an obligation to consider for my brother and my needs and wants. When someone puts their trust in you, know that the person hasn’t given up on you, but when they stop trusting in you, it’s

We can gather from this that it was the last time he had good and enjoyable time with his family, and that is probably why he reverts to it so often. This seems to be the his way of trying to be there in the moment again, or to bring it back somehow and this allows him to not feel so lonely. When the man in this song dreams it gives him a sort of independence, and freedom that allows him to live the life he wishes he had. As the homeless gentleman continues to dream and return to the past, to the good old days, where he did not have a worry in the world, he spends it dreaming of what seems to be his ideal day:…

He sees himself on a journey in life though he is young he is having to figure out why is he on the path that he is? Is there a greater purpose to his music than he thinks?
