“I'm friends with the monster that's under my bed. Get along with the voices inside of my head. Your trying to save me, stop holding your breath. And you think I'm crazy yeah you think I'm crazy.” The “monster” is Eminem's past self and alter ego “Slim Shady” who he describes in many songs referring to him as the trouble making side of himself and the one who used to rap all the time and never be home with his family, he was always stressed out and resorted to drugs to solve his problems. “Keep knocking, nobody's home, I'm sleepwalking.” Is showing that he is not making his own decisions and something is controlling his body for him and he feels like he has no control over what happens and that his past is still controlling him. “I'm just relaying what the voice in my head's saying don't shoot the messenger I'm just friends with the monster.” He doesn't want people to hate him for what he does he just feels like he can't control
