What would you go through to gain more intelligence? In the story “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes, Charlie Gordon was a man who had a mental disability. All he wanted was to be smart, so he had an operation done that would triple his IQ. It made him very smart but then it wore off so he became mentally challenged again. Charlie Gordon should have never done the surgery because he got so smart it affected him socially to where he couldn't talk to people and after the experiment he was smart and was intelligent but then it went away again so that made him feel ashamed of himself.
