When you think of a stereotypical prince or hero, you probably think of some player going after a girl who doesn’t really want him, they fight about it, she finds out he’s the hero (or the chosen one), and suddenly they’re together at the end. This is exactly how Benedick’s story goes in Much Ado About Nothing, by William Shakespeare, which shows that he is almost the perfect display of stereotypical hero. So with that in mind, the real hero of Much Ado About Nothing is Benedick as he exhibits classic hero characteristics, and he ultimately fixed the problem at the end of the book while still getting the girl. In the beginning of Much Ado About Nothing, Benedick is introduced as this douchey playboy that Beatrice wants absolutely nothing to…

“The Frog Prince” by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm uses the personification of a frog to explore several ideological frameworks that permeated 19th-century society. The Grimm brothers utilized fantasy to distance the reader from the social relevance, concerning the Victorian Era. This fairy tale is a social critique regarding royalty and nobility’s values, beliefs and practices, and by extension parallel modern day ideologies about the importance of wealth, social distinction and beauty. “The Frog Prince” portrays the frog to be grotesque to highlight the importance of social respectability and the problems that can arise when one endeavors to transcend their social status within society. “The Frog Prince” incorporates fantastical literary elements, such as personification, the…

The definition of a hero has changed over the past two thousand years. Beowulf, translated by Seamus Heaney, is the oldest English epic to date. In the epic, Beowulf, the main character, is a hero for the Danes. An epic hero is “a brave and noble character in an epic poem, admired for great achievements or affected by grand events” (Dictionary.com). Modern day heroes, on the other hand, are defined as “a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal” (Dictionary.com).…

The hero in The Princess Bride is Dread Pirate Roberts itself, despite the fact it is not just a man anymore. The original Dread Pirate Roberts is the one who started the legacy of the name, and the true tough man everyone fears. Without him, there would be no hero nor enemy. What makes Dread Pirate Roberts a hero is the way it is used in The Princess Bride. Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm was popularly known as the “Grimms Brothers”, were characterized as one of the most dramatic writers in the 19th century. They were categorized by their short, simple sentences, colloquial language, and their well-organized approach to craft writings. Their writing was entitled Little Snow White, it was released in 1937 and it was about Snow White, a princess who falls into a deep, death-like rest after taking a bite from a poisoned apple. My impression about this narrative was an innocent little girl who had her step-mother hating her because of her beauty and kind-heart. The Little Snow-White by the Grimms Brothers is a fairy tale that reveals the goodness and the beauty of a little princess who is loved by all, however,…

The three specific character traits I have for the king are as follows: kind, persistent, and wise. I chose the trait ‘persistent’ because right away the king attempts to make conversation with the boy, despite the boys short responses. For example in the quote “Meanwhile, the old man persisted in his attempt to strike up a conversation.” The kings is also persistent that the boy goes on and achieves his Personal Legend. The second trait for the king is ‘kindness’.…
