In the world of advertising, it can be hard to stand out among other ads seen on TV and online. Apple creatively sets itself apart from other ads with a unique old-school concept to show off its new technology. In Apple’s “Barbers” commercial for the iPhone 7 Plus, the company argues that the newest version of a successful product will have the best technology for clear, portrait-style photos, appealing to the vanity that society has instilled within itself when it comes to taking a “post-worthy” picture.

It has come to the point where the logo, an apple with a bite taken out of it, is instantly recognizable as the brand name. In the commercial, all the audience needs to see is the phone with the Apple logo, and it is instantly known that this is an iPhone commercial. The end of the commercial establishes the product as the iPhone 7 Plus. Apple knows they do not have to establish themselves as a credible name because that is already well known, so they use the length of the commercial to convince the audience that this new technology is perfect for their needs as photographers on a day to day basis, blending the new technology with “old school” vibes (“Barbers”). From celebrities to everyday people, everybody wants to be a part of something that the rest of society deems “cool.” The ad demonstrates this in a way that the picture that is “posted” is literally posted on a wall for pedestrians, and potential customers, to see. One by one, people start to notice it, and more people who believe that the barbershop trendy are showing up. This action to appeals to the vanity in society. “Trends” are most often seen on social media, and the image that people put out on their social media platforms often reflects their best-self, or someone they strive to be. The more “trendy” something is, the more likely people are to add it to their profile. Apple recognizes and appeals to this feeling in the ad by showing how simple it is to take an amazing picture with the new technology in the iPhone 7 Plus (“Barbers”).
