Anne Conway’s view of the spirit has double perspective: magical and moral. From one perspective, everything is capable of becoming more spirit like, that is, more refined then spiritual substance. Everything is capable of extreme goodness. Anne defines evil as a falling away from the perfectionism of God, and understands suffering as a major characteristic of spiritual recovery. They will do well to ask whether their like for Satan does not spring for enmity for God.” (Lewis 48). This seems to be a fair point, but it also ignores that in some respects Milton left open the door for a likeable Satan. His justifications and complexities are relatable to the reader.…

In the article, A Leader’s Guide to Why People Behave the Way They Do, one of the key ideas to take away from this article is how an effective leader should not focus on using a command and reward system to obtain proper behavior in the workplace. Instead, a leader should “understand why the people they are trying to influence behave the way they do” (Clawson, 2001). With this very idea, we can begin to open our minds to fully understand people, not only in our professional lives but in our personal lives as well. Having the skill to understand VABEs (Values, Assumptions, Beliefs, and Expectations) and the ability it has to shape behavior is important for an effective leader (Clawson, 2001). VABEs are developed early and throughout our lives…

When I saw the topic of the first chapter in Steering Through Chaos, I knew immediately that this would be, for me, one of the most important discussions of the entire semester. Although I wrestle to various degrees with the other six vices, pride has the greatest influence on the desires of my heart. My focus until now has not contained as much depth and clarity as I originally thought.
