“ Uncovering Yourself Through Diversion” Anger. Frustration. Stress. All families have issues. The author of “Golden Glass”, Alma Luz Villanueva, and the author of “My Favorite Chaperone”, Jean Davies Okimoto, tell the story of two adolescents who overcome obstacles. Maya, the main character in “My Favorite Chaperone”, and Ted, the main character in “Golden Glass”, both develop by building stronger connections with their parents. At the beginning of “Golden Glass” Villanueva shows Ted’s closeness to his mother. This lets me know Ted was frighten, he probably did not think being alone would be so scary. As Ted continued to be outside he started to adapt to being alone. However, when Ted goes to summer school he began uncovering himself through the work of creating glasses. The text explains “ Ted was taking a makeup course and one in a stained glass. There, he talked and acted relaxed, like a boy; no one expected any more or less. The colors of the glass were deep and beautiful….”. This defines Ted as becoming one with the work of his own art.
