Q4: Some of the internal factors that contributed to imperialism in Africa was that Africa was known for their raw materials like gold, diamond, and more. In 1867, there was the discoveries of diamonds. In 1886, there was discoveries of gold, both in South Africa. This made it more tempting for the British to take over Africa. Another factor, was that the British had more updated weapons like the Maxim gun. The Maxim gun was the first world's automatic machine gun so that the British used against Africans while Africans had outdated weapons. Europeans nations also had steam engines. The steam engines were an easier way to travel on rivers so the British had an easy way to go to Africa. British thought of diseases that they can get in Africa. The Sepoy Mutiny was drama between British and India. This rumor was about India's soldiers' cartridges of Enfield rifles were covered in meat grease so they had to eat the end off. This was told by Britain. India wasn't happy about this at all. This outbreak was called Sepoy Mutiny. This brought more racist attitudes towards Britain. They shouldn't treating India like this. After everything, they do for Britain like providing raw materials so they can make their products. Lord Kitchener tried to defend Britain by saying "I believe that we don't have a rank... him to be considered an equal of the British officer." (Kitchener) An example of racist attitudes was the Great Depression of 1930. "The Great Depression was that black workers pushed aside by white workers. Black people's were less than 30% compared to white people. A lot of black people suffered from unemployment because of their color of their skin. There were debates about race discrimination like jobs, how much each race would make, and more."
