Genocide is one of the many things today that is so hard to prevent. The word genocide comes from the Greek word geno-, meaning race or tribe, and from the Latin word -cide, meaning killing. The genocides range from the Armenian genocide, the genocide in Darfur, in Rwanda, the Holocaust, and so much more. Raphael Lemkin, the person who came up with the word genocide, came up with it because he wanted to describe Nazi policies of systematic murders and the other crimes against humanity. Genocide occurs because of the people who think it is okay to kill off an entire group that is different than theirs. They do it because they are scared of different, and so they murder.
First of all, genocide occurs because of propaganda. “...Ottoman authorities had created an empire-wise propaganda piece in which Armenians were presented as backstabbers…, in league with the Russians, and a threat to state security” (Doc H). The Turkish government had to make the Armenian race seem like bad people by using propaganda. The propaganda they used influenced the Ottoman to

“Burning of synagogues only if there is no danger or fires for the neighborhoods” (Doc C). The Nazi military was a very organized militia who wanted to have everything done orderly. Their strategy was to be neat so that way there could be no mess ups to spend time on, and focus on killing more Jews, as horrific as that may sound. In addition “... I shall at all times by ready, as a brave soldier, to give my life for this oath…” (Doc D). Being a part of the military since back then until today is a big commitment because you risk your life fighting for what you believe in. Today, you fight for your country, however, back then, you fought for Hitler, and you fought for all of the Jews to be abolished. Military strategies helped organize the more gruesome parts of the genocide because they are the people that will do what they have to do to make sure that they

When the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire became more educated in the Ottoman society starting in the 1800’s, the most educated citizens of Armenia began to ask the empire for equal and better rights. These requests from the Armenians along with a quest for territory and power drove the Ottomans to begin killing any Armenian that was within their region. The genocide gave insight into how Hitler’s mind got so twisted to kill off people of his own country, along with how Armenia became one of the smallest countries in the world. No mass killing in history was more deadly or effective than the genocide carried out on Armenia by the Turkish government through their quest for power, as an average of 2054 Armenians died per day over the…

The Armenian people and the Jewish people were both placed under horrible, inhumane conditions. The Nazi’s will always be notorious in history for what they put the Jewish and the other minorities through during their reign of terror. The Nazis did horrendous things to those who did not die such as human experimentation, torture, starvation, and other atrocities. The Nazi’s showed no mercy and displayed the most sinister side of mankind imaginable to it’s prisoners. The Turkish people are not known to be as cruel as their Nazi counterparts, but saying they did no evil is a lie.…

The story of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising was something I 've never learned about before, I always thought “why didn 't the Jews fight back?” when in reality they did. The Armenian Genocide is sometimes referred to as the Armenian Holocaust because it reflects some of the Holocausts key attributes. Primarily, it was a targeted execution of the Armenian population (an ethnic group) living in the Ottoman Empire. The Armenians had once been their own country but then had been absorbed into the Ottoman Empire. Soon following the beginning of Ottoman rule, the Ottoman government began persecuting Armenians. This persecution began by limiting the Armenians rights and treating them like a lower class of civilian, on the grounds of the Armenians not being Muslim.…

The term “genocide” was created by Raphael Lemkin, who had been strongly influenced by his study of the Armenian case and the persecution of Jews under Nazi law (Bright, 2015). A country like Turkey still actively denies the Armenian genocide and has passed a law to punish an individual up to 10 years in prison, to discuss the Armenian genocide (Armenian Genocide, 2010). However, there is evidence against the Turkish government that prove the Ottoman Empire intended to exterminate the Armenian group. In the Ottoman Empire society the Turkish government, uses propaganda to manipulated public opinion, tax prices were raised against the Armenian citizens, and the Armenian population were dehumanized. Causes and Prevention of Genocide: Armenia Case Study The Armenian genocide is one of the most infamous crimes against mankind, yet is not nearly accredited as such. Even Adolf Hitler, who is responsible for the deaths of over six million Jews alone, has said, “Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of Armenians?” (“Popular Quotes”), clearly depicting the ignorance and disavowal of the deaths of over 1.5 million Christian Armenians in Europe during World War I. In the years between 1915 and 1918 the Turkish government carried out a genocide against the Armenian population of the former Ottoman Empire.…

So, someone has a different color skin, a different religion, a different ethnicity! People are everywhere and there is no good reason to kill each other in mass, because of different color, different belief, and different custom. However, modern society has perpetrated multiple genocides where thousands of innocents- children, elderly, men, women- have been killed for no reason other than a color, a belief, a custom. Established in 1944 by a Jewish lawyer Raphael Lemkin, the word genocide was first used (“What is Genocide”). At this time the Nazis were clearing out the Jewish people in Germany (Kiernan).…
