The main idea of this article was about the negative element of candidate Sam Houston including how not only did he cheated on his wife but also the country.
• What is the author’s purpose (to entertain with, persuade to, inform of, create…)?
The author’s purpose was to inform the reading on all the negative element of candidate Sam Houston and how he cheated on his wife and now the country to persuade us with Burnet because of his good elements.

The effect that the author has create on the audience is that now they see another facet of Sam Houston not as the hero and all. This might cause the audience to dislike Sam Houston and would rather vote for the other candidate after knowing the negative element Sam Houston has. The author keeps repeating what they have said about the entering another woman building and all. It sorts of confusing and it now less reasonable since the author is circling around the same idea repeatedly. The logos the author did have though was alright but could be improve if they make it a bit more interesting. When the author states how Sam Houston is “cheating” on his wife, it would be more effective to connect it to how it going to affect how he’s going to lead the republic.
• Does the author appeal to ethos? If so, how, and is it effective? If not, how could he/she?
The author does appeal to ethos, and I think the way the way the author did it was very effective because it gives the audience some sort of “proof” to agree. The author also states what the candidate said to persuade us to vote Burnet instead of Sam when listing the positive thing of Burnet and negative of Sam. Ex: “Going to spy on Burnett to see his flaws.” This was very effective because it shows a negative element from Sam himself.
• Does the author appeal to pathos? If so, how, and is it effective? If not, how could
