Day 6- McKinley Assassination
Analytical summary
President William McKinley was scheduled to appear at the Pan-American Expositions in Buffalo. On September 6th, he needed to visit the Temple of Music but Leon Czolgosz shot McKinley in the stomach twice when McKinley shook Leon’s hand. McKinley died several days later and Theodore Roosevelt became president shortly after.

“Teddy Roosevelt’s accidental presidency, made possible by an assassin’s bullet, profoundly changed the course of the century”(137).

Supports/contradicts American ideology or American Creed
It somewhat supports the American ideology and creed as when Roosevelt made a lot of changes to provide the people with their rights and opportunities.

The reforms made as a result of Freedom Summer improved individual freedom and equality for African Americans and improved democracy as now all could vote.

Freedom Summer showed how terrible people's’ actions were at times in the south. Thus, a result of it was social order being prioritized over individual liberty as people were not left to their own vices.
The Civil Rights Act intervened with states’ policies, prioritizing a desire for (racial) equality over their individualism.
Although there were no foreign threats during Freedom Summer, democracy was under threat from racism and it was protected by requiring states to give fair voting rights.
