Analytical Essay On The Outsiders

The book ‘The Outsiders’, a novel by S.E Hinton takes place in a rough neighborhood where they are all friends. There are two gangs in this area that are rivals, The Greasers, and the Socs. They are complete polar opposites; the Greasers have long greasy hair and rough clothing but they all come together to form a big family, whereas the Socs have slicked back short hair and nice clothing. In addition, to their nice clothing and hair they also have fancy cars and houses. But, they still have their problems. In multiple scenes in this novel, it suggests that things are rough all over, even if it seems they aren’t. In chapter one, on page thirteen and fourteen, they talk about Johnny’s home life and how his parents treat him. ‘ “ His father was always beating him up, his mother ignored him, except when she was hacked off at something, and then you could hear her yelling at him clear down at our house.” ’ Then in chapter two, on page thirty-two Ponyboy was telling Cherry about Johnny getting beat up by the Socs and he told her, ‘ “We were used to seeing Johnny banged up- his father clobbered him around a lot, and although it made us madder than heck, we couldn’t do anything about it.” ’ Both of these text evidences prove my claim that the theme is things are rough all over because, Johnny gets abused at home by his parents when they even care …show more content…
