In 1953, Arthur Miller wrote the play The Crucible .One of the themes it presents is jealousy, which many people are easily motivated by. In the play, Abigaile is motivated to do anything, even accuse Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft, so that she can be with John Proctor.
In the beginning, we find out that Abigail and John had an affair while Elizabeth was sick.
Elizabeth caught them, and this caused Abigail to get fired from her job at their house. This made Abigail be even more jealous of Elizabeth. This is shown when she says, “She [Elizabeth] is telling lies about me! She is a cold, sniveling woman, and you bend to her!” (Miller 150)
