American writer and poet Edgar Allan Poe was born January 19, 1809 in Boston Massachusetts. Poe did not know his parents well. There were a several events that lead him to writing emotional works. Some of work includes “the raven” that dealt with sorrow and ‘’Annabel lee’’ that dealt with his wife death. After his wife death he is being writing even more depressing things. The poem ‘’Alone’’ expressed how he felt throughout his childhood, young adult years and adulthood.
In the poem it says, “From childhood’s hour I have been As others were; I have not seen As other saw; I could not bring My passions from a common spring’’. This line is saying as the other kids had different passions and shared it with others he did not because they didn’t have the same things in common. He experienced way more things than the children his age. For example, Poe’s parents being absent in his life he was raised by John and Frances Allan as their foster child. This was one of the events that made him feel lonely. When Edgar was only three his mother died from tuberculosis meanwhile his father leaves the family. Edgar needed money, but John only gave him what he thought was enough. Eventually Poe being to gamble and quickly became in debt. This made Edgar quit school and enlisted into the army. Edgar had no money and wanted to get away from his foster father. He did not last long in the army so then he was enrolled to military school and did not last long due to John was not sending him any funds. Edgar broke the rules and ignored his duties until he was
