I agreed and pondered with the points Mei Jee carried out, on what she does and believes in. We can make a lot of reasons on why we cannot pray in public, maybe we are ashamed to do so, but there are also a lot of reasons on why we should not be. I would like to carry out three points or reasons on how important prayer …show more content…

From the Flick of a Light Switch to the Destruction of Mountains How does flicking on a light switch relate to the destruction of some of the oldest mountains in the world? A good question, related largely to this one: What does a meeting of Catholics called “Prayer on the Mountain,” an article writer and blogger named Erik Reece, seventy-seven commercial fishing groups, the Coal River Valley community, seven hundred Alaskan hunting and angling groups, the National Council of Churches, two hundred chefs and restaurant owners, and lots of community members all have in common? These two very different questions relate to one thing: coal companies that destroy the environment and communities in order to mine more coal at a cheaper price and in less time. How are the coal companies going about such a task? They are using a technique called strip mining, or sometimes mountaintop removal.…

In the novels, Praying for Sheetrock and Bread and Roses, both authors tell a story about how a group of people struggled in their lives. Both novels are based off of true stories with small portions of fiction in order to give the stories more depth. In Praying for Sheetrock, by Melissa Greene, the reader is placed in a small county on Georgia called McIntosh during the 1970’s and 1980’s. The overall theme of Praying for Sheetrock is based on African Americans fighting for a better way of life equal to their, more powerful, white neighbors. Prayer opens doors for God to act and work. The scripture I have chosen is 1 Samuel 1:10-11 to prove my statement. It reads as follows; “and she was in bitterness of soul and prayed unto the Lord, and she wept bitterly. And she vowed a vow and said, O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your hand maid and remember me and not forget your hand maid, but will give unto her a male child, then I will give him unto you all the days of his life and there no razor come upon his head.”…

Catholics cannot be good at prayer. The reason that a Catholic cannot be good at prayer is that prayer is not a competition for God’s assistance. As we learned, prayer is a way for Christians to open themselves up to be transformed into an interpretation of God. It can also be said that prayer opens one to God’s love. This notion of obtaining God’s love is important because God’s love is not dependent on how much you pray or how dedicated you are in the religion.…

For the effect of prayer is union with God, and if someone is with God, he is separated from the enemy.” It should be instant and intimate communication and is similar to what we enjoy with our best friend. St Gregory of Nyssa lists out a lot of good effects that prayer will bring such as “guard our chastity, control our temper and rid ourselves of vanity” etc. Luther also says one must unceasingly guard against sin and wrong-doing through continual prayer.…
