In college, the goal of professors and educators is to give you information, even if the subject material may not be beneficial in one’s life or career. As a newly minted adult, this class has helped me to carve out the path before me and crystalize my idea of who I want to be as a person. Before this class, I only had a vague idea of how I wanted to live my life, yet in this course, I have gained insight into myself and tools, ideas and philosophies about how I can achieve the good life. Through examining other scholars, I aim to mitigate status anxiety through living a more mindful and deliberate life by aligning my values with my behaviors in terms of time, money and consumption and to eventually craft a space which reflects these values and goals.

In her Ted Talk “Why I live a Zero Waste Life” Lauren describes the benefits, which draw parallels to Your Money Or Your Life where one of the benefits she describes is “I save money, I eat better, I’m happier because for the first time in my life I’m living in direct alignment with my values” (“Why I Live A Zero Waste Life”). Similarly, the thesis of Your Money Or Your Life discusses either adjusting your values or behaviors to match one another and be accountable for these actions (Dominquez 131). I believe I need to make a conscious change in my consumption habits to align with my values for the environment.
