There is a decent amount of money being made off of college sports and it has led to some questions on whether or not student-athletes should be paid for their efforts. Yes college athletes should be paid because playing a sport is like having a full-time job. No because it's impossible to make the paying system fair.
Being a college student-athlete is like having a full time job, so why not be rewarded like it is one? "On average, a college athlete will spend up to 44.8 hours on their sport- playing games, training and practicing" says Allen Sanderson, senior lecturer at UChicago. When you are putting that much time and effort into a sport, it doesn't leave a lot of time for a job. Balancing between school and sports, how is a player suppose to fit time into their busy schedules for a job? Athlete's wouldn't have to worry about getting a job because their passion would help them pay their way through college. It could give a lot more motivation to the athlete's because if they were paid, it would be harder to play and you would have to compete more for a spot. More and more student-athlete's would play a sport in college because it gives them an opportunity to play, get an education and not worry about how they are going to pay it all off. College sports would be more interesting to watch because of the high level of competition. Athletes would have to work harder for a spot and that could drive a team to
