In “This plastic toilet could save lives” Parija Kavilanz discusses a new portable toilet invention by Jasmine Burton. When Burton first thought up the idea of the portable toilet, now called the SafiChoo toilet, she was an eighteen year old college freshman that was disturbed by the sanitation problems that occur around the world. Burton designed the toilet to be made of plastic and has the ability to run with or without water, can separate solids and liquids, and can have a bidet all in which is “intended to help curb contamination and the spread of diseases” (Kavilanz, “Plastic Toilet”). Burton also designed the toilet to be simple and usable by either sitting or squatting and didn’t want to sell the toilet for more than fifty dollars
