The types of perpetrators of wilding are individual, institutional, and systematic. Individual wilding is when one specific perpetrator is wilding by themselves. Institutional wilding is done by corporations, governments, churches, or other institutions. Systematic wilding is wiling perpetrated by economic systems such as capitalism or cultural systems. Lastly, is the physicality of wilding are violent and non-violent wilding. Violent wilding is wilding that involves physical violence. I learned from reading The Wilding of America that there are a lot more crimes happening than just the violent shooting and such on the streets. Some of the white-collar crimes effect a much greater amount of people than say the over publicized cop shootings. The cop shooting are blown out of portion by the media, then making individuals do wilding acts to retaliate against the “violent” cops. The media can be seen as a type of wilding because it portrays things in negative ways that they are not meant to be portrayed as. This thus informs the people watching of incorrect information because the media displayers want more people to watch. Sometimes a lie is going to be much more interesting than the truth so they will tell that lie instead to get more views. More views, mean more money and potential raises. This is an act of self-interest that is hurting others and weakening social fabrics.
Self-interested act that harm others could also be considered a social problem. Manis defines a social problem as “any social condition identified by the knowledge values of sciences as detrimental to human well-being”. Thus by both the book The Wilding of America and Manis definition they combined to generate an idea that wilding is a social problem, and a social problem is wilding.
