Materialism deals with the proposed fact that in reality, to be able to have an experience of a physical object in any given situation; a person will have to physically experience that moment, otherwise, they will never know what it is like. You will have to be in direct contact with that physical object and all the properties of it; to be able to say that you know what it felt like handling that object physically and emotionally. He may think seeing snow for the first time will make him super happy. He may recall what it feels like from the last time something made him super happy but, that will not be enough to say he knows what he will feel like when he finally experiences the reality and physical properties of the snow. He may be happier than he anticipated or he may be having more mixed feelings than anticipated but with that said, prior to his initial experience of the snow; he would not have been able to anticipate all of the possible feelings and experiences with out physically encountering the physical properties of the snow and all of the snows existence in reality. We do this to try to figure out what something is going to be like when we finally experience it. Although that may seem to be a normal concept; that is not reality. Reality only consists of the physical. Reality is not to think you know what something is like based on prior knowledge but rather it is physically being with that object and all of its properties to be able to know exactly what it is like to experience that object. We can have all the possible details on a certain physical object and can have complete descriptions on it from all possible aspects but, unless you have actually experienced that physical property; you have not dealt with it in reality thus materialism can not take into account phenomenal
