The society we are being raised in has shaped us into mindless, mechanical robots. Our opinions are being spoon-fed to us through forms of entertainment to the point where we can’t even think for ourselves anymore. Our status and our worth is based off of how many things you have. Not the measure of intelligence. Not the measure of creativity.…
Once individuals are present in unfamiliar places or situations, they will try to get to understand the situation and gradually adjust to it. After different experiences, they will think and learn in different ways that help them realize smartness. As Davidson says, “learning to think in multiple ways, with multiple partners, with a dexterity that cannot be computerized or outsourced, is no longer a luxury but a necessity”(61). The comparison of “luxury” and “necessity” illustrates the shift in humans’ minds regarding the conception of creative thinking. In the modern society, creative thinking becomes a more of a necessity for individuals because there are many unexpected events happening everyday.…
The Huffington Post blog “Want to Help Your Kids? Let Them Get Bored”, by Alyson Jones (2014), advises parents to permit their children to experience boredom as it is an essential component of a child’s development. Jones declares that it is not the parent’s responsibility to constantly amuse his/her children, instead, exposing children to boredom is more beneficial as it allows them to better understand themselves and their own personal thoughts. Furthermore, this self-awareness leads to better comprehending the emotions and actions required to develop social connections with others. Likewise, boredom increases one’s creativity, while also motivating a child to strive for additional success.…
“Stupid Jobs Are Good to Relax With,” by Hal Niedzviecki and the article “The Heady Thrill of Having Nothing to Do,” by Scott Adams are two articles loosely intertwined. The article “Stupid Jobs Are Good to Relax With,” by Hal Niedzviecki reasons the idea that part-time jobs are something that we should slack off in and are there to help us pass time. While the article “The Heady Thrill of Having Nothing to Do,” by Scott Adams debates about how our most creative thoughts and ideas come from our moments of boredom, as well as how society’s modern day influences are the culprit for our lack of boredom. Both articles vaguely share a similar topic, boredom. “The Heady Thrill of Having Nothing to Do,” by Scott Adams is a more strongly written article than “Stupid Jobs Are Good to Relax With,” by Hal Niedzviecki.…

Ray Bradbury, the author of the novel Fahrenheit 451, depicts a future society in which people are bombarded with sensation and either cannot or choose not to think for themselves. This is, in fact, what Bradbury believed our actual human society to become. He once said, “We bombard people with sensation. That substitutes for thinking.” So, not only does Bradbury depict a life without free-thinking and intellectual pastimes in 451, but he also implies that society is already taking this road.…

From my past experience, I believe that creativity is the discovery of something new and thinking outside the box in order to make way for new innovations. I Rickards’ (1985) definition of creativity advocates the same idea. He defines creativity as ‘the personal discovery process… that leads to new and relevant insights’. He also supports a view that portrays creativity to be the discovery of new and meaningful perspectives, or as an ‘escape from mental stuckness’. In this sense, Rickards also supports the belief that creativity is an inherently individual act (Von Stamm, 2008).…
Policy makers all over the world have sought an “age of creativity” for its economic purpose. They believe that the emergence and functioning of such an age depends on the health of creative industries. However, there is a boosterish view on the term ‘creativity’, meaning that the creative industries are great but it is also flawed due to the significant and unique difficulties it harbours. This essay will discuss some of the reasons on why I strongly agree with this proposition but will also acknowledge that there are certain limitations that come with it. To begin with, what is an age of creativity?…
Tidd et al (2005, P.3) states that “innovation is driven by the ability to see connections, to spot opportunity and to take advantage of them”. However, it is creativity that gives that ability to conjure up the ideas and Cummings (1998) supports this. He very much describes creativity as the idea generating stage. Martins and Turblanche (2003) also supports this theory and offers a definition for the context of organisational creativity. They state that: “…creativity can be defined as the generation of new and useful/valuable ideas for products, services, processes and procedures...”…
