Task 1
I found the text “The day I became black” very interesting. The text is about Willem Reerink and how one day his life changed. The day when everyone found out that he was African American. I think that the interesting thing about this text is how his life changed, how people reacted to it and how differently they treated him, like he was a completely different person. Willem’s skin was not black, he just had a deep tan. This mad people question and he actually had to prove himself with pictures of his heritage to make everyone believe him. People then started seeing him differently, like he had betrayed them by never talking about it. The only thing people seemed to care about was his blackness, not his achievements, he felt trapped by stereotypes. I had no idea that people could react so much to something, especially to something like this. It`s just about his skin color and where you’re from, and that shouldn`t matter. I think that it should not matter if your black or white and it shouldn’t be like you just change how you look at someone just because you find out something about them.

If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.” – Nelson Mandela, South African political leader
I picked a quote by Nelson Mandela that stood out to me. I think the quote is trying to say that you can speak with someone in any language they understand, but their native language will always mean more for them. It is the same for me, I understand it when people speak to me in English, but I will always understand Norwegian even better. I also think people are more comfortable speaking their own language because you`ll know all the words by heart and you won`t have to think before speaking cause the words will just come. In a language you don`t know a hundred present you sometimes will have to think it over and also struggle with some
