The way the authors have structured this article by stating what is the problem, what is really causing all the these problems to happen, and lastly what is the way to fix this problem on college campuses. They start off by say how having certain words and ideas to be restricted and how this is doing more harm than it is doing good and how the punishment for causing someone harm by the use of certain words and ideas just because that person got offended. Then the authors continue to say that one of the reasons why college students are being offended is because of overprotectiveness and how it started. “Stories of abducted children appeared more frequently in the news, and in 1984, images of them began showing up on milk cartons. In response, many parents pulled in the reins and worked harder to keep their children safe.” (Lukianoff & Haidt) They also go on to tell you have how it could be a mental illness that could be another factor in the matter of being offended so easily.
In the essay “The Coddling of the American Mind” by Lukianoff and Haidt have come to a conclusion as to what the students can do about this problem. “...colleges should do all they can to equip students to thrive in
