Decent Essays
I choose"The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County" because the title attracted me.
The story told that the narrator was requested by his friend to make some inquiries about Leonidas W. Smiley, who was a young minister of the Gospel. As a result, Jim Smiley used to bet on anything such a cat-fight, chicken-fight, or dog-fight, also, maybe he betting on two birds which one will fly first. He had a horse, a little small bull pup and other to bet on it, so one day he own a frog to learn him to jump, he named the frog Dan'l Webster, but one day when he bet on him with another frog, Dan'l didn't jump, while the other hopped off. Smiley surprised why he didn't jump and wondered about him bcause he just give a heave, so smily lost this bet(Twain,1867).

Being a TCU horned frog feels right for many reasons. TCU affords me the opportunity to move away from my hometown, Waco, it allows me to select from any of the majors I've considered; it provides me all of the resources I need to learn and excel; and it means I get to cheer on one of the best football teams in the nation, all while being in a faith-growing environment. I found, during my campus tour, the aspect I was most impressed by was the TCU spirit. Every student my tour group encountered wore a prideful smile, excitedly greeting their peers and every now and then one would yell a “Go frogs!”.…

The short-story version of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County was very different from the live performance version of it. For example, the characters are different between the two. Furthermore, certain pieces of information in these examples are missing. While the written story is entertaining, I was happier with the performance. If I could, I would go back to ISU and watch the plays again.…

that Smiley’s frog could out jump the strangers, nevertheless his frog didn’t win because the stranger weighted it down, “he got the frog out and prized his mouth open and took a tea- spoon and filled him full of quail shot filled him pretty near up to his chin and set him on the floor”, This represents realism because the characters show that there was gambling back in the day just like there is now and there always will…

Greed and Wealth: Connections between A Doll’s House and “The Rocking-Horse Winner” Most people have this fascination for money. Sometimes it gets so bad that it consumes a person. Nora and Hester, in the works A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen and “The Rocking-Horse Winner” by D. H. Lawrence respectively, both struggle with greed. Nora’s fascination with money sheds light on Hester’s lust for wealth. While both characters are avarice, Nora becomes less greedy as the plot progresses, whereas Hester’s craving for riches only intensifies; this is seen through the characters’ attitude toward money, abuse of it, and how their perspectives change with regards to wealth.…

Mark Twain wrote his first short story in 1865 and it was named “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County”. The story had a great success, and still the readers all over the world love it. The plot of the story is simple and looks like an anecdote, told by the barmen Simon Wheeler. The narrator was looking for Leonidas W. Smiley, who may or may not have stayed in the mining camp where barman worked. Still, Wheeler had remembered only Jim Smiley and decided to tell the story about the latter and his frog.…

The children's book, Frog and Toad Together, might not have challenging language or plot lines, but it does have life lessons that can apply to real life situations for anyone from children to adults. In the book, Frog and Toad show the importance of being organized and having a plan. By giving his money away, Twain shows how Huckleberry Finn solves this issue in a realistic manner instead of a romantic manner. He solves his problem in a plausible way showing his realism rather than hiding his money in a grand way such as in a treasure chest like the romantic character, Tom Sawyer, might have done. Though when Huckleberry Finn shows how superstitious he is of bad luck after killing a spider, Twain shows that he has traces of romanticism. Huckleberry Finn “…got up and turned around in [his] tracks three times and crossed [his breast] every time; and then [he] tied up a little lock of [his] hair with a tread to keep the witches away” (Twain 3). By trying to rid himself of the bad luck that he believes he has after killing the spider shows that Huckleberry Finn has some…
