The word “crisis” seems to be viewed with negative connotations in our society. Crisis appears to be evil and full of difficulty and disappointment. What many of us tend to forget is that crisis is vital to us in the journey of life. Why? Because with crisis comes change.
There are people who find the idea of crisis to be very attractive, are these people mad? No, they are actually quite amazing and what sets them apart from the people who fear crisis is their attitude. In the climate of crisis these people do not shy away from the dilemma, rather they face it head on because they know that it will bring change. When we start this life we are given a certain set of circumstances and as we grow we need to decide what to do with them. This is where their attitude becomes so important. Let’s imagine that two people are born into the same set of circumstances. One of them possesses a strong, positive attitude while the other constantly ruminates and has a negative attitude. When a crisis strikes them the one with the positive attitude may feel afraid at first but he will soon realize that the crisis is bringing an opportunity for change. He will embrace the crisis unlike his negative counterpart. You need to understand that during life there will be times of peace and times of difficulty. Sometimes you will find yourself in situations that are beyond your control but instead of feeling sorry for yourself you can choose to be positive. You are not alone; every human being will experience these same types of highs and lows.
As a crisis manager you must have a positive attitude, it is essential. You must also show others around you how to adopt the same outlook on life. Your positive attitude will have a great impact in your effectiveness. You will be able to think and reason without giving in to your emotions, and make good decisions. You will be able to keep calm because you will not be catastrophizing events in your mind. Furthermore you will create an attractive and supportive atmosphere where problem solving can take place.
Crisis in neither good nor bad and circumstances are never absolute. You have the ability to change your circumstances and to overcome crisis if you choose to overcome negative thinking. A climate of positive thinking, even in the face of crisis, can change the way you view the world and the things that happen to you. Think of yourself as a victor and make courage your new goal.
