September 11th is a day that every American citizen knows as a day of remembrance for those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks against our truly great nation. Even today, people still visit the memorial that was built to to honor the victims of that fateful day. Although September 11th is not only a day to remember victims, it is also a day to remember heroes. It is a day to remember those who gave their lives to save others. It is day to remember people who stood up for freedom and fought the Al Qaeda terrorist members to save random people that they most likely did not even know. Well it is true, the attacks against the United States were a terrible thing that happened. However, there were plenty of good things that came from the attacks as just explained in this paper. It is merely a question of whether the pros outweigh cons. So do they? Well, as previously stated, there were plenty of bad things. For example, over 3,000 people died due all of the attacks including unborn children. At the memorial site, “The phrase ‘and her unborn child’” (Wikipedia 3) can be seen next to the names of pregnant women who died due to the attacks. While this is a tragedy, it is also a part of life. It seems harsh to say that, however, that is the cold hard truth of it. Some people also believe that the “9/11 shutdown democratic values and harmed civil rights” (“9/11: The Day…” 1). This is due to the controversy over whether or not the CIA used unconstitutional interrogation methods against suspected Al Qaeda members. Some people believe that “CIA personnel decided to initiate a program of brutal interrogation techniques in violation of U.S. law, treaty obligations, and our values” (Mukasey 1). It is reported that the CIA used a technique called waterboarding. This technique, in no way brutal or torturous, puts a subject on their back with their …show more content…
It is a day to remember that we were attacked in a way no had even imagined before. It is also a day to remember that we overcame the attacks against us. We, as a nation, were able to defeat the terrorists who attacked us and put a temporary hold on terrorism. From the day we started Operation Enduring Freedom all the way up to the day Osama Bin Laden, the leader of the radical terrorist group known as Al Qaeda, was captured by Seal Team Six (Mukasey 2). Up until the day he was executed and the Al Qaeda terrorist group was finally eliminated and terrorism against America was put on hold. September 11th was the day that gave the United States its motivation to seek the end of this terrorism. That day must be remembered as well the fact that even though 9/11 had many negative effects, it brought out the best in American citizens and brought the nation together as a
