What do randomly discarded objects have in common? The answer is simple. They are tokens of forgotten moments, cheerful exchanges, and symbols of a daily routine. The more complex question is how does a haphazard pile of random items describe a person? Throughout this short piece, the art collage titled Sweet Joyful Gems, a metaphor of Sonya E. Gonzalez will be described, analyzed, and explored for additional meanings.

The collage display Sweet Joyful Gems is items found in a bedside jewelry box. Each item is a direct connection to me. While they might be discarded items, some are even covered in dust, they are not forgotten. The items combined are a metaphor of my personality and character. Some of the items in the

The items held within the jewelry box describe Sonya Gonzalez. They are a metaphor for my life. The box itself is a pink unicorn jewelry box, fun and whimsical. The middle focal point of the collage is a Bank of England 5 pound bill, which would be considered a gem. To the right of the bill are two milk candies, which are sweet. The box also contains a rock paper scissors dice and a kitten pen, both of which show a love of happy thoughts and games. The idea behind item locations of objects creates a piece art that describes me. The items on the outer edges are strong character traits, love of sweets, memories, attention to detail. The inner rings are examples of experience and everyday routine, like loose change, makeup, my employer's keychain. The role of each item is very important, it is a layer of my personality onion. The randomness of the items lends to the idea that a person, myself included, cannot be defined by one object or token. Without one item, like the seahorse charm souvenir from a family vacation, the artistic representation of myself is not complete. I am many different experiences and memories. Therefore, if a piece is missing Sweet Joyful Gems is no longer a piece of art or a metaphorical representation of …show more content…
First, the collage name itself describes the metaphor. It tells the viewer this piece is happy, cheerful, and treasured. The name of the piece alters the creator and viewers perception of the art piece. Secondly, the artist, myself, in this case, had no idea random odds and ends would create metaphorical art. The creation was organic. An artist does not need awareness to create art. There is art all around us that happens/happened naturally. Most importantly, art can tell the viewer more than the artist intended. In my case, the objects and choice of display box allow the viewer to explore pieces of me that I did not think of upon initial creation. The pink unicorn box, kitten pen, and lamb stickers represent someone who is young minded, perhaps somewhat of a dreamer. There are many items that I wear in the box, which could be representations of my need to portray a certain appearance to others. A piece of art opens a window into the creator's mind. Therefore, there are endless opportunities for explorations of each and every item and the items as a whole.

It is my hope that throughout this short piece, the art collage titled Sweet Joyful Gems, a metaphor of Sonya E. Gonzalez, was illustrated, studied, and explored further meanings. I, like all other people, am complex and capable of art. Are our lives not a constant creation of art, joyful and painful? The collage Sweet

J Personal items can often hold a lot of weight for a child. For Marilyn Nelson Waniek, this is represented through her and her sister’s love of blankets. A source of comfort, imagination, and memories, the blankets and quilt Waniek describes throughout her poem, The Century Quilt, illustrate her feelings towards family. Waniek uses structure, imagery, and tone in her poem to show her deep relationship to her family, and most particularly their diversity and the way their generations progress.…

There are so many minute nuances that make the human experience what it is. In the short story “Janus” by Ann Beattie we learn about our desires and dislikes with life through the character of Andrea and her ceramic bowl. Beattie heavily enunciates Andrea’s obsession with the bowl through the use of literary devices of symbolism, allegory, and tone. Beattie uses these tools to show how her relationship with the bowl displays her true desires. In the story the main example of symbolism would be the cream colored bowl she got at a crafts fair.…

The objects that I were assigned were the Bandolier bag from the Native American Delaware Tribe, and the Painted elk hide from the Easter Shoshone tribe. Bandolier bags were extremely popular among most Native American tribes, and each tribe expressed their culture through them in a different way. This particular Bandolier bag comes from the Delaware, or Lenape, Tribe. It is estimated that it was created around 1850 C.E., and is crafted with beads on leather hide. This object has two components to it, one being the shoulder drape and the other being the small bag.…

Throughout Carson McCullers’s work The Member of the Wedding, Frankie Addams is seen to embody or take on characteristics of a male. McCullers gives Frankie male characteristics to show the difference in power dynamic between males and females throughout the text. During the scene with her father in the jewelry shop, Frankie thinks of the times that she pretends to work on watches just like her father, “sometimes a little crowd of sidewalk lazies would collect to watch her from the street and she would imagine how they said: ‘Frankie Addams works for her father and makes fifteen dollars a week. She fixes the hardest watches in the store and goes to the Woodmen of the World Club with her father… [she is a] big credit to the whole town” (McCullers 310). Frankie subconsciously takes on these characteristics and tries…

Composers construct images to draw an emotional response from responders and exposes them to mew ideas and perspectives. Visuals in texts are a powerful tool to reshape understandings of specific ideas and draw us into their experience. Judith Beverage uses the observation of an animal, a giraffe in Domesticity of Giraffes and a spider in The Orb Spider and uses this as an inspiration to comment on the beauty and order of the natural world and the result of interfering with this balance. Doris Lessing explores the conflicting feelings about the transition from childhood to adulthood, taking a moment in a young boy’s life for her symbolic short story Through the Tunnel. Using a variety of techniques, both composers construct powerful images…

Topic Sentence 1: The Chinese mothers pass down their jewelry when their children are in a predicament presented to them by their American life; however, the jewelry does not possess qualities the American grown children need and therefore the mothers cannot use it to help them.…

All Who Wander May Truly Be Lost The process of curation is often seen as a process involving the molding and forming of a work of art, the dynamic behind curation is usually looked at backwards in the sense that the process is building something up rather than what it truly is which is tearing something down. Curation into beauty consists of shaping something by taking things away, and in The Lost Wax by Jericho Parms, the author shows this central theme throughout the book that a person is made and formed by the losses in their life. This theme is accentuated by stories in Parms’ life that implore love and loss, but these stories that on the surface may seem miscellaneous, at the same time they all point back to a metaphorical idea of curation.…

Art is like a window to the mind, representing how one thinks or what one feels. In some cases, it may contain elements from one’s unconscious; elements that even they are not aware of themselves. Art has zero qualifications, allowing it to be crafted by anyone and everyone, while still containing components of its creator and provoking feelings in its spectators. (Rustin, 2008) Of the pieces involved in the Best of the Season exhibit at the Webber Gallery, Lunch With Einstein by David D’Alessandris is one of the more “unusual” pieces. It contains four figures, whose heads seem to be taken from elsewhere and pasted onto their bodies.…
