Analysis: Should Teens Be Tried As Adults

A teen who commits the same crime as an adult should not be punished as an adult so justice can be suffered. In my opinion trying teens as adults is ineffective and puts them in danger. They can suffer psychological problems in prison with adults and they can also be abused. In my opinion there are better ways to help them and to serve justice for the people who suffered, but trying them as adults and putting them in prison with adults is not one of the logical options. Teens should not be tried as adults or put in a prison with adults because it doesn’t rehabilitate them in anyway, on the other hand it make them feel worse. In two recent large-scale studies it shows that juveniles who receive harsher penalties when tried as adults reoffend sooner and more often than those treated in the juvenile system. This shows how giving a teen a harsher penalty and being tried as an adult doesn’t help at all on the contrary it makes them worse as the studies showed. The point is to try and get the teenager to change not to make him worse so he can keep committing crimes. Teens have the right to a second chance especially at such a young age.
